Can You Use Fragrance Oils In Candles?

Many people often ask the question “Can you use fragrance oils in candles?”. In the past most people used essential oils in candles, but in recent years due to advances in technology people have started to use fragrance oils in candles. Scents Soaps and Candles have a massive range of over two hundred different fragrances oils to use in candles.

The difference between fragrance oils and essential oils is that fragrance oils are not natural oils, they have been manufactured to give the scent that you are looking for. These manufactured candle fragrance oils have been made to work specifically in candles. They are made by mixing synthetic constituents which perform well in candles.

Using fragrance oils in candles is becoming more and more popular as people make their own candles. Many people start off by making candles at home as a hobby and then some become hooked on candle making and turn it into a business. The good thing about candle making is that there are no strict rules to follow - candle makers work out what works best for them by a process of trial and error. By experimenting with different types of wax, wick and fragrance oils you will find out which works best for you.

You will quickly discover that each candle fragrance oil is different and you will have to use different percentages to get the desired result. If you use too much it may clog the wick, you will also discover that fragrance oils perform differently from wax to wax. That’s one of the great things about candle making - life is never dull! You cannot give an exact percentage of fragrance oil to use as they all behave differently. It can be extremely frustrating, but with patience and trial and error you will eventually find out which oils work for you and at what percentages.

One thing that is important to remember is that you should weigh your fragrances and not go by volume. This is because the density of each candle fragrance oil is different - so work on a percentage of the weight of the fragrance oil to the weight of the candle. To make things even more perplexing is that you will find that some fragrance oils for candles are stronger than others. This means that if you have a stronger smelling oil you will not have to use as much of it than a weaker oil.

It may sound complicated but you will quickly get the hang of things and will soon be making your own great candles. Scents Soaps and Candles have a great range of candle fragrance oils, waxes, dyes and wicks. They also have many great articles that will take you step by step to help you make your own candle.

One of the best things about our candle fragrance oils and candle essential oils, is that they can be used in other items as well. Most notably wax melts, soaps and diffusers. Happy candle making!
