What You Need To Know About Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers have become very popular in recent years and are an ideal option for people who want a flame and heat-free fragrance option. Many candle makers are now adding reed diffusers to the list of fragrance products that they sell.

One of the great things about reed diffusers is that they are so easy to make and they can also be very profitable to sell. When you use a reed diffuser you can scent a room without using a candle – many families with pets or small children prefer reed diffusers as they consider them safer. They also come in many different styles with different coloured lids making them suitable for most decors.

How Does A Reed Diffuser Work?

reed diffuser is a container (typically a glass bottle) that has fragrance oil that has been mixed with a base solution poured into it. Reeds are then put into the bottle and then they gradually draw up the fragrance solution which evaporates into the air. This then leaves you with a fragrance through the aroma molecules which are released into the room.

The strength of the fragrance depends upon how many reeds that you add to your diffuser. Typically the greater number of reeds that you place into the diffuser the stronger the scent. For a larger room, you may need to add more reeds than you would normally use for a smaller room. However, remember that the more reeds that you use, the quicker your diffuser will be used up.

What Fragrances To Use In Reed Diffusers?

Scents Soaps and Candles have a great range of fragrances that are suitable to use with your diffuser base. We have tested each fragrance and state on each individual fragrance page what our recommendation is for what percentage to use in your mix.

When we carry out our inhouse testing of each fragrance oil we are checking to see which ones are compatible to use in reed diffusers. What we are checking out is that the fragrance does not separate out from the base solution. If we find that this happens we will recommend that you do not use it. However we work very hard when we create each new fragrance to try and ensure that they are compatible.

How Much Fragrance Do I Need To Add To My Reed Diffuser?

Scents Soaps and Candles test all of our fragrances and we recommend that you use no more than 25% mixture of our fragrance oil to the Augeo base oil. Generally fragrances are used between 25% to 15% depending on how strong you want the aroma to be. You need to be careful because if you use too much fragrance oil it will end up clogging up the reeds. We have taken the guess work away from you as we provide recommendations for each different fragrance that we sell. If you want a stronger fragrance simply add more reeds.
