What Is Soy Wax And Why Should I Use It?

In the last couple of years there has been a massive shift from paraffin wax to soy wax. Paraffin wax is regarded as a much easier wax to use and also usually has a better scent throw than soy wax. However many candle makers are switching over to soy wax as it is a natural vegetable wax. Soy candle wax is made from the oil that is derived from soybeans. When searching for candle making supplies, your wax choice is very important.

The process starts with the harvesting of the soy beans which are then cleaned to remove any impurities, cracked open and de-hulled. The next step in the process is that they are then put through a roller that crushes out the soy oil from the flakes. Once this has been done the oil is hydrogenated.

The purpose of hydrogenation is that it alters some of the fatty acids that are present in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This is important as it changes the melting point of the soy oil resulting in it now being solid at room temperature. The bean husks that are the by product from this process are then used as animal feed.

Scents Soaps and Candles have extensively tested several different types of soy candle wax and have now a comprehensive range of soy wax for candle making and wax melts. It is an extremely popular wax due to its rich creamy colour and clean burning properties.

The Benefit Of Soy Wax

Many people have switched to soy wax as it is a completely renewable commodity unlike paraffin. The other advantage of soy wax is that it has a clean slow burning process which gives the user a much better candle experience. The other great thing about candles made from soy wax is that they are so easy to market. This is because they are eco-friendly, vegan friendly, carbon neutral, sustainable and renewable. What is there not to like about soy wax!
